BLURB
Christine is a nurse living in New Orleans who discovered the world is secretly full of supernatural creatures. Vampires kidnap her to use in a ritual that would allow them to walk in sunlight, but it backfires and she's imbued with the power of sunlight instead. Now she's in hiding so the vampires don't try and use her again or just straight up kill her because of what she could do to them.
PERSONALITY
Christine has a no nonsense attitude. Usually if she has a problem with something or someone, she is not afraid to state so, unless the situation involves her superiors. In cases such as those, she will be less blunt unless she knows the person well enough to know they would not reprimand her for being candid. She will let few things bother her, unless it's an important issue to her, such as an injured or ill person refusing medical treatment. She also has a caring bedside manner, and Christine is sympathetic towards the ill or injured.

Christine tends to depend on herself for things, not wanting to rely on others. This stems from childhood, when her parents grew tired of attending all her ballet recitals and eventually stopped coming to them altogether. Not letting herself rely on others means there's no opportunity for them to let her down, as well as the fact that her accomplishments are hers alone. As an O.R. nurse, Christine still carries that drive to succeed and prove herself to be the best. Her career is the most important thing to her, and she throws herself into her work. She's open and friendly with her fellow nurses, even a little bit trusting, but if Christine had the time and resources, she would gladly be in control of everything herself. She is already very serious and dedicated to her work for her age.

Her perfectionist nature is her main flaw. She doesn't like to trust others to do things because she thinks she can do the best job. Her arrogance is something she is well aware of, but doesn't easily strive to control. She doesn't see anything wrong with wanting to be the best at what she does. Speaking her mind is natural for her. If she feels compassion for someone, she'll show it. If she feels proud of herself for something she's done, she'll brag about it and not apologize for it.

When she can't control things, such as when a patient dies despite her best efforts, she locks it away in her head and throws herself into other things, sometimes even completely unnecessary tasks, just so she doesn't have a breakdown where she feels that she's failed someone as well as herself. It's unhealthy to not confront the things she can't control, but if she did, she would have to admit to herself that she can't control everything and that she does occasionally fail. Bottling things up is something she does because she wants to appear perfect, in control, steady and sure. But eventually things have to come out and those emotions have to be set free.

Christine throws herself into things full force. She loves mastering/conquering challenges and being passionate about what she's doing. If she wasn't this way, she would see herself as a quitter, and that's something she would hate to be. She doesn't accept defeat easily. She was always smart, and science was something she loved. Discovering how the body functioned and how to fix it when it failed appealed to her and her desire to control things.

A great way to describe Christine is as a worrywart, a mama bear, or a mother hen. She always tries to be the voice of reason and cautions people against behaviors and actions she thinks might lead to a bad end. She does this because she cares and wants people to be healthy and happy. And also because she prefers safety and security over chaos. Her observations and advice can sometimes teeter into "nagging" territory, but she'd rather get through to someone and get them to see reason than keep her mouth shut and watch someone do something that ends badly for them.

Right now, Christine's world has been turned upside down and all her perfectly detailed plans and desire to control things has gone out the window. She now possesses some strange new power that manifests itself as intense light, heat, or both, and she's still trying to learn how to use it all. Putting herself into the hands of others has been one of the most difficult things she's ever done, but she's determined to conquer this like she's conquered everything else.
HISTORY
From her early childhood to throughout her teens, Christine showed an intense drive to go after what she wanted. Her interests included such things as ballet, softball, volleyball, singing, cooking, and science. Though she aced every class she took, her favorites were those that dealt with science, specifically biology. It was noted early on that Christine liked things a certain way, and that was her way. Adults easily wrote this off as Christine suffering from "only child syndrome," but the truth was simply that was a perfectionist through and through. There was a right way and a wrong way, and Christine lived her life wanting things to be the right way.

Part of this attitude could be attributed to her parents. Both worked white collar careers and neither had much time for Christine. Her early life was filled with daycare and babysitters just as much as it was filled with her parents. By the time she was twelve, she was a latchkey kid, letting herself in the empty house after school. To combat this constant loneliness and to hopefully get her parents to pay attention to her, Christine took ballet lessons several times a week to get out of the empty house. But her parents had little interest in her extracurricular activities and showed very little support, which made Christine all the more determined to get them to pay attention. She strove for excellence in everything she did. As she grew older and she slowly became aware that her parents just didn't share or really support her interests, she came to the conclusion that she couldn't depend on them, or on anyone else, for anything. This gave her an intense drive to prove herself to be capable all on her own.

Her plans to become a dancer were halted after her father was diagnosed with a degenerative disease when she was a teenager. After witnessing the care the nurses provided her father with throughout his ordeal, Christine found she admired the work they were doing. In taking care of her father during his last few months, she decided to become a nurse to give everyone a dose of kindness. There was also a rift between Christine and her mother during this time. Her mother couldn't deal with what was happening to her husband, so Christine stepped up, forever resenting her mother's weakness.

At age sixteen, she cut back on the ballet in order to volunteer at East Jefferson General Hospital. Her interests had swayed heavily towards medicine and the only thing left to decide was what exactly she wanted to focus on. Her time as a volunteer cemented her desire to become a nurse, and by the time she graduated as co-valedictorian, she had decided on being an O.R. nurse. As was Christine's nature, she had to throw herself into something challenging so that she could excel in it. She attended the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The nursing program itself was three years, but her freshman year was filled with the standard prerequisite pre-nursing courses. Though she was outgoing and made friends, she was also incredibly focused and a workaholic. Everyone who met her could tell she was very serious about succeeding. Some might add that she was stuck up, high maintenance, or (if they were a jerk, call her) a bitch, but she would far rather outshine everyone than dial down her talents and skills.

After graduation, she began work within New Orleans, and life continued on as normal with friends, relationships, and roommates. As she entered her thirties she began to make plans to settle down and marry once she found the right person, but these plans were halted by her roommate, Lindsey. Lindsey seemed to attract men to her with a smile and nothing more. She had a revolving door of suitors and was constantly inviting strangers over, much to Christine's chagrin. Then one day Christine's world was turned upside down when she and Lindsey were abducted by several of these strangers. Christine received the shock of her life when she discovered that Lindsey was a siren, and they had just been kidnapped by vampires. It turns out they wanted to perform a ritual to allow them to walk in the sunlight, but it required the blood of all the other supernatural species: werewolf, witch, and siren. Christine was the human they needed to complete the ritual. But unfortunately for them, a rescue party crashed the ceremony at the pivotal moment and somehow Christine was filled with the power of sunlight. She had no idea how it worked or what she was capable of doing, but an accidental blast from her hands turned a vampire to ash before she and the other captives escaped with their rescuers.

Her life turned upside down, Christine naturally freaked out, because she had had a plan and hated when things didn't go the way she expected. But now the remaining vampires were after her, wanting to study her newfound power to see if they could still complete the ritual or perhaps find some way to use her. A little posse formed between those involved in the ritual. Emma the witch began studying Christine and teaching her to control her power. Caleb the werewolf took on the role of bodyguard while trying to negotiate with his pack to allow Christine to hide among them from the vampires who saw her either as a threat, or the key to their ability to walk in sunlight. Lindsey the siren — feeling guilty she'd caused all this from her carelessness — vowed to reform and teach Christine all about the supernatural world hidden in plain sight. It was the first time in a long time that Christine didn't have control over her own life and had to put her trust in others, and it was the hardest thing for someone who thrives on being in control to do. Having to depend on these supernatural beings she didn't realize even existed proved to be a challenge, but she always rose to the occasion and was determined to do so again.
