Interests: I adore the Dragon Age universe and I want to fit an OC into it and see what it's like when nobody is the protagonist. I want to see how we as an RP game go through the events of the video game too.

CHARACTER

Name: Christine Delacroix
Canon/OC: OC
Journal: [personal profile] aceso
Race: Human
Nationality: Orlesian
Occupation: Healer
Age: 25

History
Christine was born and raised in the small town of Velun. Her father was in the merchant class, though her family wasn't very wealthy. Her mother was often ill, and so after Christine was born, her parents decided to not have any more children. At eight years old, she showed signs that she had magic when she accidentally put a barrier over a stray cat that some children were throwing rocks at. Since she had done this in front of others, there was no hiding what she was, though her mother was desperate to keep her at home and not lose her only child. Her father, however, felt Christine needed to learn to control her magic, and that evening she was handed over to the Templars in the town Chantry.

From there, Christine was taken to the Circle at Montsimmard to study as an apprentice. As her first use of magic suggested, she was highly attuned to the Spirit tree and found she enjoyed healing spells far more than spells that caused destruction. However, with the way mages are treated and the scare tactics used on them, Christine worked hard to learn all trees of magic to be strong as possible and not succumb to a demon's tricks. Though she didn't excel at all trees, she still studied them and found a set of spells that she felt the most skilled at using.

Life in Montsimmard wasn't as stifling as some other Circles. There were excursions into the city with Templar guards, and it was at this time that Christine first truly saw how people reacted to mages outside of the Circle. Christine had hoped to leave the Circle someday to be a healer, but seeing how people reacted to mages, she decided to begin studying non-magical healing techniques. That way, she would always be able to offer the type of care her patients wanted.

Of course, leaving the Circle wasn't an option for all, and such was the case for Christine. While other mages were social climbers, Christine had never been fond of the Game, so opportunity never really came her way to allow her to leave the Circle Tower to work as a healer out in the world. The fact that it took political maneuvering and masks (or joining the Grey Wardens) to get out of the Circle never sat right with Christine, and she was a full supporter of Grand Enchanter Fiona's calls for mage freedom. As the Circles fell, Christine was among Fiona's followers who sought refuge in Redcliffe. Though she knew that they needed protection from the Templars, Christine wasn't happy about Fiona making a deal that would indenture them to a Tevinter magister. She was contemplating trying to escape on her own before they could be whisked off to Tevinter, but thankfully the Inquisitor arrived and brought the mages into the Inquisition. Christine was only too happy to have sanctuary and to lend her skills as a healer to anyone who might need it.

Personality
Christine has a no nonsense attitude. Usually if she has a problem with something or someone, she is not afraid to say so, unless the situation involves her superiors. In cases such as those, she will be less blunt unless she knows the mage well enough to know they would not reprimand her for being candid. She has an air of being carefree and will let few things bother her, unless it's an important issue to her, such as an injured or ill person refusing medical treatment. She also has a caring bedside manner, and Christine is sympathetic towards the ill or injured.

Christine tends to depend on herself for things, not wanting to rely on others. Not letting herself rely on others means there's no opportunity for them to let her down, as well as the fact that her accomplishments are hers alone. She carries that drive to succeed and prove herself to be the best. It's born from the fact that mages are scared from a young age to believe that if they're weak, they'll be made Tranquil so as not to let a demon possess them. Early on, Christine was stubborn and refused to let that be her fate. She's open and friendly with the people around her, but is already very serious and dedicated to her work for her age. Christine throws herself into things full force. She loves mastering/conquering challenges and she doesn't accept defeat easily.

Her perfectionist nature is her main flaw. She doesn't like to trust others to do things because she thinks she can do the best job. Her arrogance is something she is well aware of, but doesn't easily strive to control. She doesn't see anything wrong with wanting to be the best at what she does. Speaking her mind is natural for her. If she feels compassion for someone, she'll show it. If she feels proud of herself for something she's done, she'll brag about it and not apologize for it.

When she can't control things, such as when a patient dies despite her best efforts, she locks it away in her head and throws herself into other things, sometimes even completely unnecessary tasks, just so she doesn't have a breakdown where she feels that she's failed someone as well as herself. It's unhealthy to not confront the things she can't control, but if she did, she would have to admit to herself that she can't control everything and that she does occasionally fail.

Strengths & Weaknesses

She is strongest with healing spells, though she has no specializations such as spirit healer. These are just normal healing spells she uses. She also is skilled with some primal spells, namely cold and fire, and telekinesis all the way up to crushing prison. If she needed to fight in a battle, she could, but she prefers to heal the wounded as opposed to inflicting wounds.

She's weak with the storm tree and anything to do with entropy. Personality-wise, she's stubborn and can be overbearing. She tends to mother people. She hates to fail and also dislikes talking about the things that upset her. She can be very proud and that can make her come across as arrogant.

Inventory

A staff, mage robes, a little money, a couple of books

Motivation

The Inquisition offers security since Christine is one of the rebel mages who needs sanctuary. And now she can do what she wanted to do outside of the Circle: she can be a healer.
